Alexander Liberman (1912-1999), the renowned editorial director at Conde Nast, was almost equally famous for his fine art, both sculpture and paintings. The work featured here was presented at an exhibition of new paintings on board at the Andre Emmerich Gallery, NYC in January, 1988 when Liberman was 75. Entitled "Become and Be", the painting is one of just twelve works in the exhibition catalogue. It is prominently signed in the lower right. We also have a tear sheet of an advertisement for the exhibition which is included along with the catalogue. The painting is described in the catalogue as acrylic on Masonite and plywood.
